- Seven Contrasts that Give Focus for Prayer
For God so loved the World… Let’s learn about the Islamic world that he loves and pray for these peoples who are zealous for religion but fail to know a God who reveals himself. The continued Prayer Challenge will consider seven more countries.
Day 16- pray4Iraq
During the Gulf War, one of my best friends during that time was a Christian from Iraq. I learned then that not everything we hear on the news is the truth. Do you know that Iraq borders two Shia-controlled countries so often they follow this influence.
Let’s pray for this land that God will continually work among the people. Iraqi Christians have endured much turmoil over the years, but may our prayers encourage them to remain faithful.
Day 17 – Uyghurs of China
Pray for Uyghurs – Lord, give wisdom and courage to those Uyghurs who need to stand for their faith and existence. The Hui and Uyghur people are two of the largest Muslim people in China. Often facing persecution to follow Islam. Yet, Christianity existed in their region from at least 840 AD.[1]see https://bitterwinter.org/there-are-christian-uyghurs-too-new-organization-launched-in-london/ Christians as a minority in a sea of Muslim under the communist China, brings challenges that only prayer can overcome.
Day 18 – Continued Prayer Challenge
Day 19 – Continued Prayer Challenge pray4Syria
Today we focus on Syria – a place that has faced war since 2011. Christians have been caught in the middle of destruction and persecuted. Many have fled to nearby countries an in those countries, refugee churches have been established. Missionary work existed consistently in the 1800s but in the last century, minimal influence has been allowed. Pray for national believers to share their faith and to live as a minority with much hostility.
Day 20 – Pray for Uzbekistan
Day 21 – Sudan
Sudan one of the larger Muslim countries in Africa with a substantial Christian population. However, two things are certain: persecution and comings to Christ. With the political military fighting between two factions, often Christian are caught in the middle. Since the independence of Southern Sudan, Christians have been targets and many churches destroyed. Yet, in the middle of this, God is working and drawing people to himself. Many refugees from war, are hearing the gospel. Pray for many to come to Christ in this land.
Day 22 – Kirghizstan
Historically a key place for the church. Even during the Soviet time period, sub-groups of Christians gathered. During my time in Central Asia, this location became a center for ministry, printing and gathering of Christians. A book by David Radford has explored some reasons why Kirghiz are coming to the Lord. Pray for a continued freedom and for many Kirghiz to come to know the Lord.
Day 23 – Afghanistan
