This is an example of a prayer of dedication for a wedding that commits the couple to a covenant marriage. It is similar to the one I prayed for my son’s wedding. I encourage you to use it as a template and personalize it.
Heavenly Father, we welcome you today as the one who binds this covenant marriage. We thank you for redeeming _________ and ________, enabling them to (place a personal item about how they met) Your divine guidance has been evident in their journey, and we are grateful for how you lead.
We know that something greater than a worldly commitment is happening here today. We welcome your presence to witness and initiate this marriage. We praise you for being the attestor and guarantor of _________ and _______’s covenant bond. Your presiding presence hosts this marriage and holds them accountable for their vows.
God’s Faithfulness
You are a covenant-keeping God who demonstrates unwavering commitment to your promises. Your promises declare that we belong to you and that your presence abides with us so we can love as you love and sacrifice for one another. For this reason, we ask for your presence and blessing on ________ and __________’s marriage covenant. May they reflect your character and oneness. In hearing their vows, Lord, may you enable them to fulfill them in faithfulness until the end of their lives.
God’s Unconditional Love
Loving heavenly Father, we praise you for your unconditional love for us. We pray that this sacrificial love will be evident in _________ and __________’s lives day by day.
Bless ________ and _________ so they will genuinely pursue oneness by your power and live as spouses who sacrifice and love unconditionally. May they see themselves as lovers moving toward their exclusive beloved spouse. I pray for (insert groom’s name) that he will be a sacrificial lover who will love his wife unconditionally, “like Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her.” May he continually seek to abide with her. I also pray for (insert bride’s name) as the beloved that out of reverence, she will respect him “as to the Lord.” In oneness, may they honor you, and the order you have established for husbands and wives.
God’s Enablement
May they, by your power and ability, continually choose to think on each other’s interests and learn to love each other. May their love be full of patience and kindness and not limited by envy, pride, and unkindness. May they not always insist on their own way but love in a way that bears all things, believes all things, and endures through the difficult days, a testament to their unwavering commitment to their marriage.
We thank you for your presence and empowerment, which will remain with them in their covenant until the end of their lives.
We pray all these things in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Amen.
