The ancient walls and multiple ruins give evidence of the 20 Byzantine Basilicas that formerly existed in this area. The walls also give voice to what took place over 1400 years ago.
The Ancient Walls
Many of the 114 towers in the wall around Nicaea still exist today—some of which record the history of former emperors who sought to announce their protection of the city.
Near the ancient wall in the north lies a basilica built into the wall.
