The ancient walls and numerous ruins provide evidence of the prosperous Byzantine community in Nicaea. The walls also give voice to what took place over 1400 years ago. Let’s listen to the walls.
The Ancient Walls
Many of the 114 towers in the wall around Nicaea still exist today—some of which record the history of former emperors who sought to announce their protection of the city. The fortitude provides evidence of the city’s richness and the importance of protecting its community.
